Word of the day: Metanoia

I’m not sure how I made it to this point in my life without knowing this word. Metanoia has several entries in Wikipedia:

  • Theology: Metanoia(n.) a transformative change of heart; especially: a spiritual conversion.”[1].
  • Psychology: Metanoia(n.) changing one’s mind [1].

William James used it to describe a deep change in a human’s personality. The Ancient Greek words μετά (metá) (meaning “beyond” or “after”) and νόος (noeō) (meaning “perception” or “understanding” or “mind”), lead to a literal translation of “after perception” and “beyond understanding”.
